Where Talent Meets Opportunity

Clevelander Mytrice Thomas joined UH in 2017 through Step Up to UH and took on a new role as an environmental services caregiver. She enjoyed her job at UH Seidman Cancer Center, creating a safe and sterile environment for patients and clinicians by cleaning the second-floor pharmacy.

After having the opportunity to work with UH career coaches and clinical professionals in pharmacy, Mytrice was inspired to complete the pharmacy technician certification through UH’s Earn and Learn program.

In just over two years, with the help of coaching and mentoring, she has progressed from Pharmacy Tech 1 to Peer Educator in the training program, training new students who were in her shoes not so long ago. Mytrice’s coaches credit her success to her tenacity and willingness to use the resources available to her – even, or especially, when things became challenging.

Today, Mytrice is working in her desired field as the pharmacy technician she dreamed of becoming. Her wage has increased by 130 percent. Mytrice is the epitome of UH’s workforce development philosophy, in which individuals ‘skill up’ to the benefit of all.
