Endowed Director for Expressive Therapies Established at UH Connor Whole Health
Board certified music therapist Seneca Block, MA, MT-BC, joined University Hospitals in 2013 as an intern in music therapy and, in the decade since, his passion and leadership transformed the program. Today, he leads one of the country’s largest expressive therapy programs at UH Connor Whole Health and is increasingly sought out as a consultant for emerging music therapy programs at other institutions. In recognition of his expertise and commitment, he was recently named the inaugural Lauren Rich Fine Endowed Director for Expressive Therapies.
“Words can’t describe how it feels to have Lauren support and recognize this program and our mission at UH Connor Whole Health,” said Seneca. “There was an overwhelming sense of joy to find out that expressive therapies – something my team and I believe in so much – was receiving this honor; it’s such a great vote of confidence in our work.”
Advancing Excellence in Music Therapy
A longtime advocate for UH Connor Whole Health, Lauren Rich Fine has utilized various integrative health services over the years, including music therapy.
“My mother had Alzheimer’s disease and Seneca helped me use music to communicate with her,” Lauren explained. “I’m so aware that many of these services are not covered by insurance and I wanted to do my small part to ensure their growth and continuation. I hope this gift inspires others to support the music program as well.”
Funding from the Fine Endowed Director will advance excellence in music therapy and strengthen UH’s expressive therapies program. Seneca describes the opportunity to fuel his team’s professional development as a privilege.
“Through this position, I will have the ability to support the growth of our therapists as both clinicians and medical professionals,” he said. “Training and additional education opportunities will allow our team to enrich their practice for the benefit of patients across northeastern Ohio. The future of expressive therapies at UH has never been brighter.”
