Miracle Fund Brings Renowned Physician-Scientists to UH Seidman Cancer Center

Established in memory of Diana Hyland, who lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer in 2008, the Miracle Fund has raised more than $20 million for advanced cancer research. Portions of that funding established three endowed positions, which helped recruit outstanding physician-scientists to UH Seidman Cancer Center.

  • Alberto Montero, MD, Co-Director, Breast Cancer Program, holds the Diana Hyland Chair for Breast Cancer.
  • Seth Field, MD, PhD, Director, Harrington Discovery Institute Physician-Scientist Programs, is the Becky Hennessy Endowed Master Clinician in Breast Cancer Genomics.
  • Corey Speers, MD, PhD, Co-Director, Breast Oncology Program, was named the inaugural Hennessy Hyland Master Clinician in Immunotherapy and New Drug Development.

Through the Miracle Fund, supporters honor the memory of loved ones and volunteers who lost their battle with breast cancer. Inspired by Diana Hyland's life and legacy, breast cancer patient Becky Hennessy was an active volunteer and advocate for the Miracle Fund and its efforts to fuel clinical research for advanced breast cancer. Becky served as a longtime co-chair of the annual golf outing until her passing in 2017; the annual golf outing was named in her honor in after her passing.

Now Ned Hyland, Diana’s husband, and Sean Hennessy, Becky's husband, carry on their wives' legacies by co-chairing various Miracle Fund fundraising events throughout the year.
