Northeast Ohio Boy Makes Gift to UH Rainbow
Philanthropy is not bound by age. Sometimes all you need is an idea, the desire to give back and the willingness to follow through.
After seeing the news coverage about COVID-19, 7-year-old Bradley Bowman talked to his dad about doing something nice for the patients at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Bradley had been a patient at UH Rainbow himself in 2018 when he had surgery to insert tubes in his ears.
“While it was scary, he also had a great experience at Rainbow and that’s why he wanted to raise money for kids in the hospital,” said Jessica Bowman, Bradley’s mother.
Bradley made books, sold drinks and food, painted rocks, and helped out his grandparents by pulling weeds and raking leaves to the curb. “He really stayed dedicated to putting that money aside,” said Jessica. “He even made a special shoebox labeled ‘donations for the hospital’ so his earnings wouldn’t accidentally end up in his piggybank.”
Altogether, the Hinckley, Ohio, resident raised $32. In a note included with his donation, Bradley wrote, “I want you to give it to any of the children in your hospital. Please help as many as you can.”
A budding philanthropist, Bradley plans to earn $100 this year and donate it to another worthy cause yet to be determined. His advice for other kids thinking about raising money? “I would suggest to them to stay calm. It’s going to be okay and people can be helped. Believe that you can do it.”
